Japan Center celebrated New Year 2025 with friends and family.
KENBU (sword Dance) was performed by Mr Nakami. Kenbu is a dance with a Japanese sword, led with Shigin (Poem), and sometimes the dancer uses a fan as well. Since ancient era, “the dance of the sword”, which simulates holding sword to cut off invisible evil spirits, has been inherited. It is a part of “Kagura” (“God-entertainment”), a type of Shinto ritual ceremonial dance.
The participants enjoyed Calligraphy, writing “笑” and “雅” for the new year.
Tea Ceremony was also performed. Many enjoyed the Japanese style of welcoming the guests with special sweets, cups, wallpaper, Ikebana flower, etc.
7 teams competed for Japan Quiz. The winners got many Japanese gifts. It was so much fun and excitements!
